Dr. Maurantonio's research is focused broadly on issues of representation, race, memory, and politics in recent U.S. History. Her Ph.D. dissertation examined news coverage of crisis in Philadelphia in the period following World War II and how this coverage was shaped by the changing relationships between news organizations, local politics, and city police.
Dr. Maurantonio has published an article in the Journal of Communication Inquiry related to her dissertation titled "`Justice for Daniel Faulkner'?: History, Memory, and Police Identity" as well as entries on crime for the Encyclopedia of Postwar America and several additional publications unrelated to her dissertation. She has presented her work at conferences in the United States and Europe at the annual meetings of the International Communication Association, National Communication Association, and Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication.
